Sindiwe was born and raised in South Africa, where she currently lives. She is the author of two autobiographies, two collections of short stories, and a novel, Mother to Mother–about the 1993 murder of Amy Biehl in Guguletu, South Africa–which was her first work published in the United States. Praise for the novel was unanimous, with reviewers calling it a “chilling and ingenious docudrama” (Publishers Weekly), “stunning” (Boston Book Review) and “devastating…unforgettable” (Chicago Tribune). Her work is published around the world in several languages, and film rights to Mother to Mother have been optioned by Universal Studios for Reese Witherspoon.
