In Memory of Phil Caputo

On May 7, we  lost a good friend and client, Phil Caputo, while the literary world lost a huge talent. Phil was with the agency for fifty years, one of Aaron’s first authors.  A RUMOR OF WAR, Phil’s memoir of his life as a Marine in Vietnam, is considered one of the finest war memoirs ever written. Published in 1977, it is still used as a textbook in high schools and colleges and has sold millions of copies worldwide.  Phil went on to write novels such as THE VOYAGE, INDIAN COUNTRY, CROSSERS, DEL CORSO’S GALLERY, HORN OF AFRICA, ACTS OF FAITH and SOME RISE BY SIN, among many others. MEANS OF ESCAPE recounts his harrowing tales of life as a foreign correspondent. For his work as a journalist, he won a Pulitzer in 1973.  His brilliant prose and his compassionate exploration of human frailties were revealed in everything he wrote. He was one of a kind and he shall be missed.
